Have You Been Unknowingly Undermining Your Diet?

By Joey Jones

We all know that one of the best foods for our diet plans are lean meats, whole grains and healthy fats. These would be the ingredients that will give us the energy and protein we need. They keep our bodies healthy nutritionally but don't stuff us full of empty calories that will later need to be burned off at the gym. Did you already know, though, that a few of the foods you are eating that are supposed to be perfectly okay by dietary standards, could be keeping you from losing weight at a good pace? They could even be making you gain extra pounds! Here are some of the foods that might be undermining your diet efforts.

You usually are not really aided by Sports Drinks. You've probably been told that if you want to help your body renew itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Most doctors will let you know, though, that if your exercise routine doesn't go over ninety minutes then you ought to be fine just by drinking water. Sports drinks are packed with sugar and calories and a massive amount of other things you don't need including artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Choose chocolate milk for your drink as a substitute. The sugars in the chocolate will help your muscles start to recover and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Skip your protein shakes. Lots of people feel that protein shakes can be utilized instead of meals and to curb cravings between meals. What you are actually doing, particularly if the rest of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. Converse to popular belief, protein isn't stored as muscular fiber, it's stored as fat. If you've already consumed your daily allotment of protein that day, your system will just keep the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't allow you to drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't nearly as good for you as you might believe that it is. It's typically considered that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread and lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat has a large amount of preservatives and can provide you with about a third of your advised sodium ingestion for the day. This is often especially dangerous if you are at risk for heart disease. Instead of selecting deli meat, choose home prepared chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Yes you'll shell out more money for these options but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a lot of things that we think will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, by way of example is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask your physician which elements are the best to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are mindful about what exactly you take in and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
