Victoza: The Ticket For Weight Loss.

By Ezra Pollock

Victoza is a marketed brand of Liraglutide. Liraglutide is a generic originally promoted to help diabetics with blood sugar management. Victoza mimics a hormone that helps the body better use insulin, but it also suppresses the appetite. Over time, this will naturally lead to weight loss. Some doctors will specifically prescribe Victoza for weight loss in non-diabetic patients. While this is considered an off-label use, it has worked very well, particularly when combined with an exercise program, adequate rest and a healthy diet.

How much a person can lose with Victoza is not clear. It varies between people just as it has varied between different research studies. Most doctors' attitude appears to be 'try it and see.' Victoza is not a miracle diet pill. There is no such thing. However, it can help. Some research shows that a loss of 5 pounds over a 26 week period is reasonable.

There are also studies that show a six percent loss of body weight while taking Victoza. You may also want to search online forums. On some forums people claim to have lost large amounts of weight while taking Victoza. Because Victoza is an appetite suppressant, it can be expected to lead to weight loss over time.

Speak with your doctor before taking Victoza for weight loss. It may help, but there are also risks to think about too. Remember, Victoza is not considered a weight loss medication although it has helped many people lose weight.

There are side effects, some of which may be serious such as the possibility of thyroid cancer. Victoza is also linked to an increase risk of an inflamed pancreas. You should also understand that unless you establish healthy habits such as exercise and healthy food choices, the weight may return once you stop taking Victoza.

Victoza is designed to help manage Type II Diabetes. Victoza is not insulin but it does share some chemical properties with insulin because it is an incretin mimetic. In the body, Victoza acts in a way that is similar to the hormone GLP-1.

When Victoza imitates the human hormone GLP-1, it enhances the body's ability to use insulin. At the same time, it suppresses the appetite, although this occurs through a different biological process the result is general a loss of weight over time.

Demonstrated to help people lose weight, Victoza and its generic Liraglutide have a lot to offer both diabetics and non-diabetics. However, the benefits must be weighed against the risks. Prescribing Victoza specifically for weight loss is said to be an off-label use; yet, thousands of people have proven this to be an effective weight loss strategy. Remember, in order to keep the weight off, it is essential that healthy lifestyle habits such as regular exercise, healthy food choices and adequate rest are established.
