Shed Extra Pounds With The Help Of Appetite Controlling Healthy Foods

By Esther See

Sometimes difficult to carry out, the theory behind losing weight is rather simple-- burn more calories than you take in. It is estimated that each 3500 calories represents one pound of body fat. To lose one pound a week, for example, you must eat 500 calories less per day than you are currently eating. Sadly, for the vast majority of people this is easier said than done.

In fact your bodies do not need too much calories to live. In fact, scientists have discovered that the human body can go two to three weeks without food before it dies. Exactly what makes slimming down difficult, on the other hand, is because our bodies are going to trick us right into believing that we are hungry, even though we are having around lots of extra unwanted fat that could be digested into energy.

Don't get me wrong -- appetite really does serve a purpose. In an ideal-weight woman, appetite stands out as the cue to absorb more calories, as they definitely will very soon be required to continue simple life functions. An over weight individual does not necessarily would need all these calories, though, and the hunger simply tricks us in to assuming that we do.

Fortunately, certain foods we eat can actually suppress the appetite, make us feel fuller longer and, as a result, cause us to eat less.

As a general rule, foods high in fiber will make you feel fuller longer because their bulkiness will stretch the stomach and trigger the body's appetite suppression system. Apples, for example, are a great example of a fiber-rich food that makes us feel full. Oatmeal is also full of fiber and, even though it contains carbohydrates, those "good" carbs will help you feel less hungry. Nuts and seeks, like pine nuts and flax seeds, also trick the body into thinking we are fuller than we really are.

Not necessarily a "food", simply drinking a full glass of water prior to a meal will suppress the appetite, take up room and result in a lower caloric intake. The same is true for green tea, because it is known that it stimulates the production of a bodily hormone responsible for curbing your appetite and it is thought to as well increase metabolism.

And also, as a final point, those of you with a sweet tooth will probably be very happy to learn that dark chocolate is in reality a diet aid because the bitterness works as a natural hunger suppressor.
