Losing weight can be hard. A saying that many of us have heard in our lives is: 'a minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips'. The growing obesity problem in society in many countries causes many other issues for people, things like joint problems, and more serious heart disease or cerebrovascular disease as well. The general public have now become more aware of these risks and losing weight has pretty much become the number one priority of people when it comes to New Year resolutions.

But how is it that one can actually lose weight? Can healthier food choices and exercise do it all? A deeper analysis will be outlined.

This is the first step that anyone trying to lose weight tries. One can choose between a lot of different diet plans today that are offered. Atkins, the hCG diet, the list goes on and on. Diets basically all have the same goal, which is to shed excess weight by burning fat, and to maintain muscle at the same time. If someone cuts certain types of food completely out of the diet, it can have negative effects due to missing nutrients. Dieticians are good at helping someone choose the diet that is best for them to lose weight in a healthy way.

There are healthier choices such as fish which contain healthy oils, having less red meat options, and getting more fruits and vegetables in the diet.

Exercise

We are all well aware that doing exercise is a great way to burn calories. There are effective ways to deplete glycogen and burn calories and subcutaneous fat using exercises that target your cardiovascular system. Insulin resistance development and cardiovascular disease is known to be more prevalent in those who carry excess weight in their mid sections. By consuming a diet that is low in calories and performing exercise that burns more calories than is consumed everyday is what helps one lose weight.

Exercise requires commitment and focus. Succeeding is easier when you have an exercise partner, as this will provide motivation to attain the physique you desire. Exercises such as jogging, brisk walks, cycling, cross training and even swimming increase the heart rate and build cardiovascular fitness while burning fat.

Achieving goals

We all know that the best way to shed excess weight is through the proper use of exercise and sensible diet. It's never easy to begin a new diet and exercise regime, but there are many successful routines that can be followed that have helped many people lose weight. Personal trainers are another good option to help keep motivated, and many people benefit from joining a fitness club, as these things will make losing weight much more likely. Other types of assistance is available from weight loss clubs that will actually deliver healthy meals right to people's homes, which helps them to have easy access to nutritious food. There is no excuse!
